The international programme, fully taught in English, is accessible to foreign students from any country. The programme has a duration of two years and its graduates are awarded with a Master degree in Optometry which is recognised in the EU and most other countries. The Optometry Master’s Programme is designed for graduates of Bachelor’s programme of Optometry who would like to concentrate on their professional careers and at the same time to increase their qualification. The programme is a combination of in-person learning and e-learning; e.g. the tuition is carried out in two forms – in-person (in two periods of intensive tuition; each requiring a week each at the beginning and the end of each semester) and distant (e-learning and self-study). It incorporates both university taught and practice-based components which have been designed together as an integrated whole. It provides students with an extended set of theoretical knowledge and practical abilities that deepen findings learnt in previous study and prepare them for professional autonomy and excellence in professional practice. The major focus of the programme content is given to widening clinical skills in the fields of internal medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, traumatology, gynaecology & obstetrics, paediatrics, psychiatry, and oncology. These abilities unable students to master special methods of medicine and optometry. A great deal of the programme content is devoted to extending practical skills and operating complicated ophthalmologic instruments which are maintained by students’ placement at outpatient hospital departments, optical laboratories, and application centres of contact lenses. Apart from the skills and knowledge mentioned above, the curriculum of the programme comprises necessary knowledge of prosthetic care, therapy of acute diseases, nursing and public health care. Furthermore, the students acquire fundamental knowledge of methods of scientific and pedagogical work. Graduates of this programme are experts in the areas of optics and optometry in outpatients’ departments, optical stores, ophthalmology departments, rehabilitation departments, departments of social care, spas and other fields of correction aids working together with other health professionals, including general medical practitioners and ophthalmologists to ensure the best eye and vision health outcomes for the population. They are able to function as independent professionals capable to apply suitable diagnostic and therapeutic methods and to select appropriate treatment. Besides, they can be employed as tutors of specialized subjects at secondary schools and universities.
